Hire Bike Adventure in Bruny Island

Whatever your Style, See it your Way.

Most people hire a bike with pannier bag, helmet, reflective vest, map and first aid kit, collect it from near the ferry at Kettering, board the ferry and then go.

A typical hire is for about 6 hours, but some only go for an hour or two and others stay for days and days on end.

If you’d rather the luxury of a guided tour, contact us and we’ll work out whats best.  We can supply a guide to ride with you, or we can fully support you using the dual cab ute.  The dual cab gives a back up for tired riders, carries all the luggage, a spare bike and food.  We usually stay out of sight behind the riders to forewarn approaching cars from the rear.

We can source and supply quality local produce and tasty delights.  It can be quite beautiful to have a simple BBQ at one of the picnic areas.

Eco Tourism

While touring the island think about the environment, the wild animals, the trees, the water and cast your mind back to the aborigines who had lived here on Bruny for many thousands of years till the white man and his religion came and drove them out.

And think about how precious and fragile it all is.

Imagine experiencing one of the most beautiful places on earth at your own pace. Cycle Bruny provide the bikes and gear to do it with. For most of Bruny an eBike hybrid tourer is the best, but for some areas the eBike 29ers are better, Dennes Point for instance being a dirt road is better done with the mountain bikes.

You need to be fit and a regular rider to be able to ride Bruny on a regular bike, both ends of the island are hilly while the middle part is fairly level.  There are a couple of fairly big unavoidable hills near the ferry. The eBikes make it a lot easier, but you will still get a workout and still have to peddle. You can adjust the power assist level as you go to suit your needs.
Once you get to Bruny Island you have some clear choices about which way to pedal first. Heading North from the ferry at Roberts Point will take you to Denne's Point. Most of this ride is on a fairly quiet unseal dirt road. There are some spectacular views back up the Derwent river, Storm Bay and across the D'Entrecastaux channel.  There are plenty of photo opportunities.

Heading South you can ride on a sealed road to the oyster and cheese places, and on to the Neck if you feel like it. Or go on to Adventure Bay where there is plenty to see and do. Stay at a lodging or pitch a tent. Further South you can reach Alonnah, Lunawanna or Cloudy Bay. The road to the lighthouse is not ideal for cycling and only experience cyclists should attempt it. Also Coolangatta and Cuthberts road are over a small mountain with steep, rough unsealed surfaces, and once again should only be attempted by experienced cyclists.

The vistas of the Tasman Sea that spreads towards Antarctica are amazing. Not only are the views stunning but you will experience some of the freshest air in the world.
